March 23, 2008, the Church celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. With that celebration we also recommit ourselves to the mystery of belonging to the Risen Presence of Christ on the earth.
There are two ways that persons "belong" to someone else. One is slavery, which demeans the human dignity of a person by reducing him or her to a soul-less thing. The other is through love, the commitment that binds one person to another. This is the "belonging" of the Christian, iterated by Jesus at the Last Supper, when he gave us the example of loving our neighbor by washing his feet. Best wishes for a blessed Easter, 2008.
